Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) achieved since its foundation in 1928. a leading role in basic and clinical ophthalmological research. In 2004 ARVO started establishing ARVO Chapter Affiliates, to gather those members of the national ophthalmological associations, who are interrested in research. So far Brasil, Argentina and Israel formed an ARVO Chapter Affiliate organisation.

 

ARVO supported hungarian ophthalmologists (registered and potential ARVO members) to establish an ARVO Chapter Affiliate organisation.
Hungarian ARVO Chapter Affiliate was founded on 26 March 2007 in the Department of Ophthalmology of Semmelweis University Budapest and was named HARVO – Hungarian Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. HARVO was formed as a Section of the Hungarian Ophthalmological Society. After founding HARVO and applying for an ARVO Chapter Affiliate status, ARVO approved our status and allowed officialy our activity from 1 January 2008.

Since 2008, HARVO organizes a symposium as a satellite meeting of the yearly congress of the Hungarian Ohthalmological Society (link az angol nyelvűre) and supports travel grant programme to the ARVO annual meeting in FOrt Lauderdale.
